PS3 No Video - Free Tips to Fix PlayStation 3 No Video Problem!

PS3 No Video - Free Tips to Fix PlayStation 3 No Video Problem!

Hdmi

PS3 no video errors can be very disruptive to your game play experience and any other experience that you might be using the console for. There are several tips for fixing the issue of PS3 no video that may help you solve this problem. Some of these are common sense and some are not very common at all. However make sure you try them all before calling Sony to get repair services.

First things first the most common cause of PS3 no video problems is that the audio video cables aren't hooked up properly. Always check your system and your monitor to make sure that all connections are properly inserted at both ends. If this does not fix your issue then you may wish to try another cable.

If a second cable does not fix PS3 no video problem then you may need to change the settings. Often people will hook up an HDMI cable to their unit and forget to set the display settings before the switch. This would mean that your system is still using the standard video cable port instead of the HDMI port.

If the PS3 no video problem still exists with using both sets of cables then check that your TV is receiving signals from other components. When doing this also make sure that you're using the correct input channel for your console. If this still does not solve PS3 no video problem then you may need to call tech support and resolve your issue.

Experiencing the PS3 no video problem doesn't mean that your console has failed. It can often mean that it is simply not hooked up properly or its settings aren't configured. Checking the obvious things like cable connections, input channel, video configuration settings, and monitor functionality can help you fix PS3 no video issues. Remember to be patient and never assume that it is dead until you've tried everything.

What is DisplayPort?

What is DisplayPort?

Hdmi

Displayport is one of the newer video digital interfaces that serve as a cathode ray tube, or CRT for monitors and televisions. Displayport is one of the Video Electronics Standards Association's (VESA) newest vision in simplifying and standardizing video connections, including the common and much used VGA, DVI and HDMI interfaces.

The maximum capacity in transfer for a Displayport interface is around 8.6 gigabits per second over a 2m cable. The Displayport connector acts as a direct competitor with the HDMI, featuring richer colours, higher resolutions and being able to hold a variety of different channels which handle device control instructions.

This particular cable has been in the markets since 2008. While the original VGA port has been extremely reliable and compliant, the Displayport cable sets a new standard which is on par with the HDMI. Possible uses for the Displayport cable range from a home entertainment system to a computer monitor. The Displayport connection allows for a direct connection from the computer onto a digital entertainment system, greatly simplifying the process and cutting out any messy wires.

Utilising a USB connection supporting 1 of 4 pairs of data including audio, video, and clock signals, the Displayport cable boasts a maximum resolution of 1080p. Although the Displayport cable itself is compliant with other HD systems such as DVI and HDMI, the Displayport connector itself is not cross compatible.

Security measures implemented into the cable includes DPCP, or otherwise known as DisplayPort Content Protection. DPCP allows for users to optionally enable content protection that can help protect transmission data from being intercepted and sent to unauthorized users from a distance. The Displayport system is also being constantly upgraded, with its development backed up by Intel is releasing new versions to the market much like the way HDMI does so.

And in comparison, when looking at Displayport and HDMI, which one is better than the other? There are a variety of answers to this, but one advantage of using Displayport is that it is currently license free, meaning that developers and computer technology manufacturers are more likely to use the Displayport connector since it is more cost effective than the HDMI which requires licensing fees. In terms of quality, the Displayport would be more or less on the same level as a HDMI, which is by far one of the best means of display HD media. Displayport has received much positive feedback from the market, and it will probably continue to do so.

HDMI, A Brief Overview - How to Select the Right HDMI Cable for Your New HD TV or Home Theatre

HDMI, A Brief Overview - How to Select the Right HDMI Cable for Your New HD TV or Home Theatre

Hdmi

When shopping for a new HD TV or Home Theatre system often times how to connect it all up becomes the most confusing decision of all.

With the introduction of HDMI, the idea was to simplify connectivity between devices, and what a great step forward it is. Of course like most things there are some minor quirks but this technology offers mostly positive benefits.

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) means that a single digital link between source and display can now replace those numerous coloured RCA connectors that we were previously familiar with, or could more accurately be described as the Spaghetti Junction wiring lurking behind many a Home Entertainment System.

Besides the obvious advantage of less clutter, using a HDMI Cable means that you are able to enjoy a Full HD Digital Video signal (1920 x 1080 pixels) and uncompressed multi channel digital audio. Formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio offer a soundtrack with flawless quality identical to the studio master.

Another important fact to consider is that S/PDIF connections like Optical/Toslink or Digital Coaxial do not offer enough bandwidth for High Definition audio. These connection types have a maximum data transfer of 1536kbps which is only enough for the legacy audio codecs like Dolby Digital, DTS or uncompressed 2 Channel LPCM (at a maximum resolution of 48kHz/16bit).

The potential quirks with HDMI technology usually stems from HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) handshaking issues or EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) synchronisation issues. Usually there are ways within the settings for each device to overcome any such issues. However, to cover this in detail would be another topic altogether and we may post another article in the future addressing these technologies in more detail.

So now you're out shopping for that nice new HD TV and you might be wondering what is required to set it all up?

Chances are that you came across some very expensive Cables and/or other accessories while looking for your new TV. The good news is that this article should help better equip you with knowledge so you don't end up spending unnecessarily for your new home entertainment setup.

Perhaps you have found this article after shopping at a local retailer and came home baffled why all the accessories cost so much. Well, the truth is they don't have to.

You might have heard that HDMI is digital so the cables are all the same. While this is true on a basic level, it isn't always as simple as that. Like anything there are still certain levels of quality that may impact performance.

Without strictly referring to HDMI Cables in particular but in general there are products out there that are insanely expensive. There are also products available that are just plain cheap and nasty. Best of all, there is great quality that can be found at the right price.

I am not about to tell you that every single HDMI Cable out there is a blatant rip off nor will I attempt to state that any low cost option is cheap and nasty. There are far too many variables to cover in regards to this. It is this happy medium (great quality at a low price) that I would like to concentrate on here in this article.

So what is the make up of a HDMI Cable? As a basic summary, a High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet, which is commonly referred to as a HDMI v1.4 Cable (even though this is technically the incorrect name and we will cover this in more detail soon) consists of 5 main separately insulated twisted pairs each with a drain wire and also four other separately insulated conductors. This makes 19 conductors in total. On the outside of these conductors below the PVC covering is a braided shield which usually also has another drain wire.

Most high quality Audio Visual Cables will use Oxygen Free Copper Conductors while cheaper Cables may use materials such as Copper Clad Aluminium (CCA) as this is generally cheaper to manufacture.

Probably the most important factor in regards to HDMI performance is the conductor wire gauge. What this essentially refers to is the thickness of the cable. This becomes quite important for longer lengths. Lengths over 5m start to have some impact. However, it is when lengths 10m and above are used that this becomes even more important. Electrical signals by nature will attenuate. This means that over longer distances the signal will gradually lose strength.

HDMI Cables will usually range from 30AWG to 24AWG. Some of the extreme budget varieties may use 32AWG (or thinner) conductors. It is also important to note here that a lower number equals a thicker cable. For example, 30AWG is the thinner conductor and 24AWG is the thicker conductor.

As a minimum 30AWG is usually ok for up to about 5m, 28AWG can be pushed to a maximum of approximately 10m, 26AWG can suffice for up to 15m and for anything over this length 24AWG is almost essential.

However, the above are bare minimums. For guaranteed performance, our recommendations are 28AWG for up to 4m, 26AWG for up to 9m and 24AWG for anything 10m or longer. Sometimes when approaching distances of 20m or greater, active solutions like HDMI Repeaters or Extenders are required as a passive cable may not be adequate. Please also note that these guidelines are based on today's technology. With rumours of 4K Resolution circulating (Ultra HD - 3840 x 2160 pixels), this would most certainly make the requirement for a quality HDMI Cable even more important.

The shielding of a HDMI Cable can also be quite important. However, this is a less complicated topic and basically any quality HDMI Cable should have triple layer shielding.

Please note that the above guidelines are only our recommendations and actual results may vary depending on the setup involved.

In regards to the different HDMI versions, previously HDMI Cables were referred to with version numbers. However, HDMI Licensing has now removed these and replaced the numbers with five categories. These are Standard HDMI Cable, Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet, Standard Automotive HDMI Cable, High Speed HDMI Cable or High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet.

HDMI Licensing has certification standards in place and also offers a HDMI Adopter program. Any supplier of quality HDMI Cables should readily be able to supply the relevant certification on request. If you do happen to come across any that cannot offer this certification, our recommendation would be that you should be weary of the quality that might be on offer.

We hope this has provided some key points to help you get better value for money when shopping for accessories like HDMI Cables to go with that new High Definition TV.

Review: Acer Aspire One 722

Review: Acer Aspire One 722

Hdmi

The Acer Aspire One 722 can be described as a reliable, economical Netbook with HDMI. It's less expensive as some products, yet it is cheaper than most, which might more than make up for it in the benefit department. If you currently have a powerful laptop and just need a lighter-weight netbook for travelling, or if you are looking for an inexpensive media PC, or if perhaps you're looking for an starting laptop for a child, the Acer Aspire One 722 could easily be the Netbook suitable for you.

Hardware Details

AMD Dual-Core C-50 1.0 GHz processor 2GB DDR3 SDRAM 250 GB 5400RPM hard drive ATI Radeon HD 6250 graphics card w/ 256MB dedicated memory 8" x 11.2" x 1" 3.2 pounds

Keyboard and Touchpad

There is no two ways about this - the keyboard feels filled and flexes uncomfortably. Other, similarly-sized products find a way to offer up far more room, although they're working in a similar form factor. The arrow keys are all half-sized, with "extra" shortcut keys over the left and right keys, which basically just can get in the way when attempting to move around quickly. This, not to mention the fact that the laptop keyboard flexes downwards at the drop of a hat (or the press of a key!) brings about the many more problems while typing than usual.

Then again, the touchpad is impressive in how unremarkable it really is. It's the same texture as the other parts of the body, therefore it doesn't stand out awkwardly. It's matte in texture, so your are capable of sense exactly where your fingers are. The mouse button bar is extremely reactive, and left and right-click are very well defined. You won't end up making numerous problems on this touchpad - the truth is you'll scarcely notice it's there in any respect! You'll only use it exactly as you expect and it will work as intended, that is optimal for virtually any trackpad.

Screen

Similarly, the display suffers from a reduced budget too. Whenever turned up as high as it can go, the screen still seems a little dim, although the backlight is reasonably even - no areas seem much lighter or darker than any others. The viewing angle isn't too large, but if you're watching it as one individual, you will have no difficulties. If you want to share your display with multiple folks, you may as well connect to an external display with your Netbook HDMI port anyhow.

The display is at least big (11.6 inches) and high-resolution (1366 x 768). It's not a bad display by any means, however it certainly isn't a superb one.

Ports and Connectors

Needless to say, you get a Netbook HDMI port on this laptop, located on the left side. You will also get 3 USB ports, all of which are USB 2.0, meaning faster speed, which means less time spent moving files.

Included as well will be a VGA port (useful should you come across an older screen), a high-speed networking connector (excellent if you want to save or move a lot of files), and a webcam with mike. The webcam isn't stellar quality, but certainly a nice option if you wanted to have a very quick meeting.

OS and Software

The Acer Aspire One 722 comes installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which is a nice option. They could have supplied only 32-bit, as most versions of this Netbook only have 2 GB of RAM. The 64-bit variation provides you with the choice of upgrading your RAM later, in case you find your usage requires a bit more breathing space.

However, based on the place you get it from, your Aspire One 722 may show up with a lot of bloatware installed, which significantly reduces the initial impressions of a clean, new Netbook. Reasonably, all that's necessary installed on a fresh Netbook with HDMI is the os plus some kind of media player to let you display your high-definition movies. Trialware and software of doubtful value should not be packed in, as it doesn't actually add any value for the Netbook. This is an area where Acer falls down.

Flat Screen HDTV Connections

Flat Screen HDTV Connections

Hdmi

Compared to setting up all the connections, buying a flat screen HDTV is the easy part. Indeed, connecting the correct cables to the right inputs and outputs of the proper equipment can be a challenge, especially for those who aren't tech-savvy, so make sure you read the basics first before you take on the task.

Types of Connections

Usually, a flat screen HDTV carries two basic types of connections - analog connections and digital or HD connections, although some new ones only come with the latter. Analog connections are comprised of radio frequency (RF), composite video and S-video connections, which can be used to connect cable boxes, VCRs, DVD players, antennas and some game consoles, of which S-video has the capability of delivering the highest video quality. There are also analog audio connections for older audio receivers and stereo components.

HD connections, on the other hand, consist of component video or YPbPr, FireWire or IEEE 1394, VGA or PC input, DVI and HDMI connections, which are what you should be looking for if you want to enjoy the highest video and audio quality from your HDTV. Check for HDMI connections, in particular, since these allow you to get superb video and audio quality from most HD sources, including HD cable boxes, Blu-Ray players, surround sound speakers, HDTV tuners and newer game consoles.

Connecting Your Cable Box

To get cable on your HDTV, you simply have to connect the wire running from the cable outlet to the box then plug the box to the back of your HDTV using an RF, composite, S-video or HDMI connection, depending on the type of cable box and the input you have available on your HDTV. If you want to record your favorite shows on an HD DVR like a TiVo box, you have to connect your cable box to the DVR first instead of connecting it directly to the HDTV, then connect the DVR to the HDTV via the connections provided.

Connecting your Speakers

To enjoy the superior sound quality offered by your HDTV, it is recommended that you connect external speakers, whether a pair of stereo speakers or four, six or seven surround sound speakers. You cannot connect them directly to your HDTV, though. Rather, you have to connect them first to the AV receiver that comes with the system then connect the AV receiver to the HDTV. Make sure you connect the wires to the right ports on the receiver. For example, if the pair of wires are coming from the front right speaker, they should be connected to the inputs labeled front right, specifically to the ports that match the color of each.

Connecting Your Computer

You may also want to use your flat screen HDTV as your computer monitor. If you do, you will need to get a high quality video card for your computer then connect the CPU to the HDTV via the output provided on the card. If the card only has an S-video, component video or VGA output, you will need to run an audio cable from the soundcard of the CPU to the HDTV, as well. You can also connect your laptop to your HDTV if you want to use it as your DVD or Blu-Ray player, which is especially a good idea if your laptop has an HDMI output.

Connecting Your Game Console

You can also enjoy playing video console games on your flat screen HDTV. In fact, most HDTVs have a dedicated gaming mode that disables video processing to eliminate controller delay. There are two ways to connect your game console - through your AV receiver or directly to your HDTV. Either way, the type of cable you need depends on your game console. Wii game consoles have component video outputs while Xbox and PlayStation consoles have HDMI for superior video quality.

As for your other equipment, simply look at their available outputs then shop for the correct cable. Don't hesitate to ask at the electronics store if you're not sure about which cable you are looking for. Your set-up depends on the types of equipment you have as well as how many of them you want to use with your flat screen HDTV. If you are using a lot of equipment, you might want to go with a wireless hub so the back of your HDTV isn't too crowded. You might want to get a universal remote control, as well.

Review - Acer Aspire 6920-6422 Laptop

Review - Acer Aspire 6920-6422 Laptop

Hdmi

Pros: Cosmetic Design and build quality, Fast Processor, Lots of Ram, Blu-Ray, Fast Dedicated Video Card, HDMI Output, Bluetooth, Wireless N

Cons: Speakers are weak compared to the rest of the system, but not bad, Could use a bigger hard drive.

Summary: Hands down, this is the best value in a no compromise full power multi-media laptop. This should replace your old desktop pc, or be your first pc if you don't own one yet.

What can I say about the Acer Aspire 6920-6422? Intel dual core 2.5mhz processor - check, 4gb of ram - check, dedicated nVidia 9500 video card with HDMI - check, Blue-Ray player - check, Bluetooth - check, Wireless N - check. All this packaged in a beautiful shell that you can't take your eyes off of.

This laptop is designed to do everything a PC is supposed to do. The core elements of this laptop should give you years of use for any office application, graphic intensive multimedia applications, with HD movies and gaming in all it's glory. The combination of the dual core 2.5ghz processor, 4gb of ddr2 ram, and super fast nVidia 9500 video card is the perfect combination for the current Windows Vista operating system. It's the only laptop in this price range that puts all these things together in a beautiful and well made shell.

Without getting too technical with speed charts, features, and benchmarks, it's suffice to say that the Intel processor in the Acer Aspire 6920-6422 if one of the best available today. Faster than any other CPU in almost any laptop in any price range. It's going to breeze through Microsoft Office applications like Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Plenty of power to handle rendering and processing in any graphic application such as found in Adobe CSx suites. It will even power through any processor intensive strategy games giving you fast response times. Trust me, the processor will not be the weak link in your laptop adventures.

The next link in the chain is the memory. With 4gb of DDR2 ram, Windows Vista will have plenty of room to open multiple office applications, surf the web, and check email all at the same time. You'll be able to switch between any of these applications with speed and confidence. For graphic intensive applications, you'll be able to work with large photo files, edit HD video content (like from your camera or camcorder), and seamlessly cut, paste, and undo any kind of multimedia content the typical consumer would ever work with.

The final link in the chain is the video card. The Acer Aspire 6920-6422 comes with the nVidia GeForce 9500M GS. This is the laptop version from it's powerful line of desktop video cards. Most laptops use an integrated intel solution that works fine for office applications and watching movies. However, for graphic intensive applications like from Adobe, and gaming, you really need a powerful dedicated video card. The 9500 GS in this Acer does not disappoint. Again, without getting too technical, you'll be able to watch HD movies using nVidia's highly rated PureVideo HD, and play most games at or near their max quality settings. The other nice thing about the video setup on this laptop is that it comes with an HDMI out port. This will let you hook up your laptop to your 60" HDTV and watch Blu-Ray movies in all their digital high definition glory.

Now lets talk about all the other specs that make up why this is such a great value. I don't put as much emphasis on the hard drive size as I used too. Until solid state drives become the de facto standard, there is very little difference in the laptop community. The hard drive is your standard SATA 250gb 5400rpm 2.5" drive. Nothing particularly special here. But at 250gb, it's large enough not to leave you wanting for any office application and gaming. For you multimedia users who edit large graphic files like raw photos and HD video, you probably already have an external drive for that stuff anyway. If you don't have one, get one. We all know how hard drives can and will fail eventually, so back up your pictures, movies, and projects to an external hard drive right away. Don't leave stuff like that on a laptop that can be dropped, lost, or stolen, right?

Now there are a ton of other features here that I'm going to skim through a bit, but these are the key features that will save you money because they are not normally found on other laptops in this price range. In particular, the built in Blu-Ray drive. You'd pay 0-0 for one of these separately. Bluetooth built in - you'd pay - for this separately. HDMI out - built in and cannot be added separately, so this is really really nice. Digital sound with s/pdif out - you'd pay -0 separately. Then there are the features you find on most laptops in this range such as memory card support, modem for dial up, ethernet, and USB ports. There's also the 16-inch 16:9 ratio display, built-in subwoofer, and touch-sensitive multimedia control panel. Don't let the subwoofer feature fool you. This is still a laptop speaker configuration that sounds better than most laptops, but is still a group of speakers in a thin plastic case. Don't expect to be able to hear this thing clearly in a noisy room, but it does sound great while typing away in your favorite chair.

I really like the blu-ray drive, bluetooth, and hdmi port. You can watch blu-ray movies on your HDTV and chat using your cell phone's bluetooth wireless headset on all the voice messaging services or VOIp like skype. These are the kind of features usually reserved for desktop users who would buy these things as add ons to their pc (like me). If you really wannabe be cool, buy a bluetooth keyboard and air mouse and use your hdtv as your main monitor. Turn your laptop into a true piece of home theater equipment since it already has the blu-ray drive, hdmi, and s/pdif audio.

The wireless-n is a nice feature. It's main advantage right now is range. Although it's theoretically 6x faster than wireless-g, it will be a long time before the cable/dsl companies will be able to pump out that kind of speed to the consumer. The theoretical 4x the range of wireless-g is where it's at. If you have a wireless-n router at home, then you'll be able to roam around your home without dropping the signal. Also, even though you won't see any difference in internet speeds, wireless-n offers enough speed to stream HD video content smoothly and transfer files between your laptop and desktop much faster as well.

Still, with all these features and power found in the Acer Aspire 6920-6422, I thought of a couple of things that would make this little gem standout just a tad more. For one, a SATA port for external hard drives. Of course you can buy USB external hard drives that offer virtually the same speed, but I prefer using the native SATA interface whenever possible. Most USB drives are really SATA drives with a conversion to USB built in. The only other thing I'd want is the latest dual-band wireless n. It already has wireless n built in, but they have recently come out with a dual band wireless n that can operate on a different frequency. This reduces interference commonly found in homes and offices that have all kinds of wireless devices.

If you're on the fence about deciding between a laptop and a desktop, get this laptop. In the long run, you'll appreciate the portability, space savings, and power savings of this laptop without compromising processing power and features. Plus, you won't need to buy a separate monitor ever, since you probably already have an HDTV which can be used as a monitor.
